Swipe Payments Are Coming to Restaurants. Platto Cloud Makes Them Work at the Counter.

For a long time, restaurant payments in the Maldives have had one awkward middle step.

The customer says they have transferred. The staff asks for a slip.

Someone checks the amount. Someone checks the account.

Someone tries to match it to the right order, And during a busy lunch rush, that “small” step can slow down the entire counter.

Now payments are changing. Swipe by Bank of Maldives is bringing digital wallet payments, QR payments and payment links into everyday use. That is a big shift for customers, but for restaurants, the real question is simple:

How does this work smoothly inside the order flow?

That is where Platto Cloud comes in.

Swipe makes the payment simple. Platto Cloud makes it fit the order.

In Platto Cloud, Swipe is not treated like a manual bank transfer.

Each outlet uses its own Swipe merchant wallet. Platto Cloud does not collect the customer’s payment on behalf of the restaurant. Instead, the outlet’s Swipe merchant account is securely configured inside Platto Cloud, so payments can be created, sent and verified directly from the order screen.

When staff open an order and choose Swipe as the payment method, Platto Cloud generates a unique payment request for that exact order. The payment request includes both a link and a QR code.

The customer can pay in whichever way is easier:

  • They can open the payment link sent to their phone.

  • Or they can scan the QR code shown at the counter.

Either way, the payment goes to the outlet’s own Swipe merchant wallet, and Platto Cloud verifies that the correct payment has been received for that specific order.

No more fake transfer slips.

Every restaurant knows this situation. A customer sends a screenshot. The screenshot is blurry. The amount is slightly different.
The order number is missing. The cashier has to ask someone else to confirm it.

It feels normal because businesses have been doing it for years. But it is not efficient.

With Swipe inside Platto Cloud, the payment does not depend on a screenshot. The customer completes the payment through the generated link or QR code, and Platto Cloud confirms it against the order. That means fewer mistakes, fewer delays and less pressure on staff.

Connected to the merchant’s own Swipe account

Platto Cloud does not hold the restaurant’s Swipe funds, manage its wallet, or access its Swipe account.

Each outlet uses its own Swipe merchant account. Platto Cloud only provides the POS interface that connects the payment to the order.

When Swipe is selected, Platto Cloud generates a payment link and QR code for that specific order amount. Once the customer pays, the money goes directly into the merchant’s own Swipe account, and Platto Cloud verifies the payment status so the order can be marked as paid.

That is the value of the integration: Swipe handles the payment, while Platto Cloud keeps the restaurant workflow clean.

The customer gets a simple way to pay.
The merchant receives the money in their own Swipe account.
The staff sees the order turn paid without checking transfer slips.
The business gets a faster, safer counter experience.

Built for the counter, not just the wallet

Swipe is designed to make payments easier. But restaurants also need something more: they need payments to connect properly to orders.

A payment on its own is not enough.

The restaurant needs to know:

  • Was this payment for this order?

  • Was the full amount paid?

  • Has the payment been confirmed?

  • Can the cashier move the order forward confidently?

Platto Cloud helps answer those questions automatically.

When the payment is received and verified, the order can move forward without staff having to stop and investigate.

Payment link, SMS or QR — same result

When Swipe is selected for an order, Platto Cloud creates a payment link and a QR code for that order. If the outlet has Platto Cloud’s SMS integration enabled, the payment link can be sent directly to the customer’s phone number.

For example, the customer may receive a message like:

“Dear Customer, Kindly complete your payment for order DI-ODR00436/2026 using Swipe via the link below.”

The customer opens the link, completes the payment and Platto Cloud verifies it automatically.

For in-person payments, the QR code can be displayed at the counter. This works especially well for outlets using a dual-screen layout, where the customer can simply scan the QR code and pay.

Whether the customer pays through the link or scans the QR code, the result is the same: Platto Cloud checks the payment against the order and updates the payment status once it is confirmed.

A better payment experience for restaurants and customers

For customers, this feels simple. Scan, pay, done.

For staff, it removes the uncomfortable back-and-forth of asking for proof and checking screenshots. For owners, it creates a cleaner payment trail because the payment is connected to the order instead of floating separately as a manual transfer.

That matters especially for cafés, takeaway counters, kiosks, quick-service restaurants and busy outlets where speed is part of the customer experience.

Payments in the Maldives are moving forward

Swipe is part of a bigger shift toward faster, wallet-based payments in the Maldives. As more customers become comfortable with QR payments and payment links, restaurants will need systems that can handle those payments properly inside daily operations.

  • Not as an extra step.

  • Not as a manual note.

  • Not as a screenshot in a chat.

  • But as part of the order itself.

Swipe gives customers a modern way to pay. Platto Cloud brings that payment into the restaurant workflow, from the counter to the order screen to the final paid status.

And when payments become that smooth, everyone at the counter feels the difference.
